Ultralight Solo Fringe Gear List (65° to 20°) Mountain Terrain

This is my fringe season gear list. This list was developed to handle the seasonal weather of early spring and late fall. The time of year when weather can really change temperature wise. Most of the time my summer gear list can handle all the way from late spring to early fall, say mid May to mid October. This gear list is designed to handle the cooler temperatures, especially at night from March to mid May and from mid October to late November in the Colorado Rockies. Daytime temperatures will be cool averaging around 65° F (18° C) and nighttime temperatures can be cold at 20° F (-7° C). In the mountains the weather can change very quickly so I need to be prepared for rain, snow and always the possibility of high winds. The biggest difference between this gear list and my summer list is I have substituted a warmer sleeping bag and a little more durable rain jacket.

Length of trip: 3 days, 2 nights.

Food: Food carried was for 2 and 1/3 days. I always eat a hearty breakfast before I hit the trail and I finish the trip in the late afternoon so I eat dinner at a restaurant on the way home. So basically 7 meals and lots of snacks.

Other Criteria: Bugs will not be a problem this time of year. Plenty of water sources will be available with the possibility of some frozen water. Light snow possible
