Ultralight Solo Summer Gear List (90° to 45°) Mountain Terrain

 

The following ultralight gear list is usually in my pack when I am backpacking solo during the hot summer months (June through early September) It was developed to handle the type of terrain, weather and temperatures I might encounter in the the Colorado Rocky mountains, which are my normal stomping grounds. Daytime temperatures will be hot averaging around 90° F (32° C) and nighttime temperatures were cool at 45° F (7° C). In the mountains the weather can change very quickly so I need to be prepared for rain, hail and high winds. At times I will be traveling above tree line but I will sleep lower down where there are trees and natural wind breaks.

Length of trip: 3 days, 2 nights.

Food: Food carried was for 2 and 1/3 days. I always eat a hearty breakfast before I hit the trail and I finish the trip in the late afternoon so I eat dinner at a restaurant on the way home. So basically 7 meals and lots of snacks.

Other Criteria: Bugs will only be a problem early evening and morning, this time of year. Plenty of water sources will be available so I only need to carry about 1 liter at a time.
